"Production Management - Industry 4.0"

Our series of lectures "FutureWetter" focuses on exciting topics that affect our city and every one of us. These can be in a supraregional context or also very much related to our city.

We are looking forward to present you an interesting evening, which interlinks a current topic, the opportunity to exchange ideas with many decision makers from local businesses and the better understanding of a Wetter company with interesting skills.

This year we were able to win Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Kreimeier, Academic Director at the Chair for Production Systems at the Ruhr-University Bochum, as a speaker.

"Production Management - Industry 4.0": Challenges and Opportunities

The integration of the internet of things, services and data will change production, as well as consequences for added value, business models and services are to be expected. This requires a socio-technical design perspective through which work organization, further training activities as well as engineering and software architectures are created in close coordination and interaction in order to make intelligent, cooperative, self-organized interactions between employees and technical operating systems along the value chain possible and transparent.

The change in current production systems to Cyberphysical Production Systems (CPPS) poses major challenges for companies. These developments are summarized under the term Industrie 4.0 and lead to significant changes in production and cooperation with customers and suppliers.

In his lecture Prof. Kreimerier will present results from current industrial joint projects. Within the scope of the joint project "SOPHIE" the real-time link between the real factory and the digital factory is realized. The aim of the joint project "Adaption" is to support medium-sized companies in the development of a roadmap from the current state to an "industry 4.0 company". The "APPsist" project is focussing on the development of an assistance system that supports employees at shop floor level in their activities. The qualification of employees through the development of learning factories can make a significant contribution. In order to ensure that German industry, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, is not only a leading provider, but also a leading market and a leading user of industry 4.0 technologies, it is essential that companies are supported in their implementation.

We were able to win the company Demag and in person Thomas Wiesmann, Head of Demag plants Wetter (Ruhr) and Uslar.

Together with us our mayor Frank Hasenberg, under whose patronage our event stands, will welcome you.

Speaker Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Kreimeier - introduction

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Kreimeier, born 1956, is the Academic Director at the Chair for Production Systems at the Ruhr-University Bochum, where he conducts research and teaching in the area of production management.

In addition to the design of current trends within research, Prof. Kreimeier cares about practical teaching. For this reason, he started to develop a realistic learning environment in 2008 as one of the first at a German University and has gradually developed it into a learning workshop. The Learning Factory enables the execution of events in a practical factory environment, both in university teaching as well as in the context of training for the industry. Today the focus is on the areas of process optimization, resource efficiency, management and organization of work, human-robot collaboration as well as the current research topic Industry 4.0.

Under the leadership of Prof. Kreimeier, the working group on production management focuses on the topics of digitalization and industry 4.0 in its research activities. Technical aspects such as the use of modern agent systems or the use of innovative networking to improve resource efficiency are considered as well as the changes in the organizational processes through the digitization and the support of companies in their development towards the industry. In order to support the staff in work and learning processes, assistance systems are being researched and the training program in the learning workshop is continually expanded with new content and findings from research.

Starting in fall 2017, the chair will, in co-operation with the University of Siegen, develop a medium-sized 4.0 competence center on "Qualified work in digital change", in which the learning factory will play a central role.

Prof. Kreimeier is a member and expert in various research groups.
