On the trail of Friedrich Harkort
Duration: 3 hours
Cost per person: 13 €
Start and end point: Historic railway station in Alt-Wetter
On the trail of the Harkort family
Twice a year we offer you a three-hour bus trip,
which deals with the Harkort family and their work in our region.
The focus is, of course, on
who is regarded as an important industrial pioneer of our region.
On this tour we visit some buildings related to the Harkort family.
It starts with the birthplace of Friedrich Harkort on the Harkorten house in Hagen-Westerbauer,
followed by a short walk to the remaining buildings of Harkort's factory.
Back in the bus, the journey takes us along the former
Harkort-Schlebuscher Kohlenbahn track.
Again, we walk a few steps on foot to get an idea of the former route.
Interesting facts about the history of the railway complement the intermediate stop.
In Alt-Wetter we visit the area of the
where Friedrich Harkort founded his "Mechanical workshops" on the site of the former castle in 1819.
In the more than 100-year-old
you will visit the council chamber before going to the final stage of the Harkort-Tour: Gut Schede.
When the weather and way conditions permit, the tour ends with a visit to the family cemetery
on which Friedrich Harkort found his last retirement.
On the way there is much to know about the interesting personality of Friedrich Harkort,
who was not only an impetus for industrial and railway developments, but also a politician.
