Since 1995 the Association for Town Marketing of Wetter ("Stadtmarketing für Wetter e.V.") works for the presentation of the location Wetter and the systematic prestige advertising as well as for improving the attractiveness of the town of Wetter (Ruhr) for citizens of Wetter (Ruhr), citizens of the surrounding area as well as resident and interested companies. The association can also achieve these purposes by implementing appropriate procedures (eg. planning and guidance documents, publications and related services).

A town in transformation

About 1019 years of moving history–
Wetter on the Ruhr offers you a varied space for living and working

Our town Wetter on the eastern edge of the Ruhr region and on the border with the Sauerland is as diverse as life itself. Located at the Harkortsee that is built by the retained river Ruhr, and the wooded heights of the Ardey mountains our hometown with its tradition has evolved into a place, which offers many opportunities for nature-oriented recreation.

The well-developed and marked cycling and hiking trails offer plenty of variety: from relaxing walks along the shores of lake Harkort to challenging mountain bike tours in the deciduous and coniferous forests of the Ardey mountains, there is something for everyone.

The Harkortsee itself is an ideal area for water sportsmen. Whether sailing, rowing or surfing - everything is possible. On the Ruhr shore you can cycle, skate, fish or minigolf along the Ruhrtal cycle path and the lake-sided empered outdoor pool with giant slides and generous sunbathing area provides fun for the whole family.

For those who prefer it more relaxed, can enjoy a coffee or cake trip over the lake with the MS Friedrich Harkort or let the wind blow around the ears during a ride with the Ruhrtal railway - the historical museum railroad. Every 1st Sunday of the month (May-October), the train leaves from Wetter-Wengern station in the direction of Hattingen and back.

Even those who would like to search for the origins of the industrialization of the Ruhr region, will find an extensive field of activity in Wetter. Friedrich Harkort, most famous citizen of the city and industry pioneer, left traces of his life to this day. If you are interested industrial culture you may want to discover many things from this time on a signposted mountain route in the area between Volmarstein and Wengern.

You are also walking in the footsteps of town history, if you visit the historical Freiheit, the Harkortberg or the castle ruins in Alt-Wetter and in the district of Volmarstein – with a magnificent view of the Ruhr valley.

Probably the most famous citizen of our town was Henriette Davidis. In 1844 she wrote the "Practical Cookbook for Ordinary and Fine Cuisine". The hearths, walled up on a railway underpass, as well as an honorary board, still remind us of the dedicated parishioners from Wetter. The Henriette-Davidis-Museum was opened in the historic half-timbered house "Mühlchen" in the historic village center of Wengern. Various restaurants remind you of the Davidis by cooking her traditional recipes - some of them have been modernized - and by delighting the guests with this traditional cuisine.

Our town Wetter offers different topic-related sight-seeing tours, e. g. "Auf Harkorts Spuren" ("On Harkort's tracks") or a ride to the castle ruin of Volmarstein, to the Freiheit Wetter and to the Elbschetal, where you can enjoy a snack in Henriette-Davidis style.

We would like to invite you to discover the wonderful sides of the Wetter together with us.
